At Levant International School, we believe every child is curious, capable, and unique. Our mission is to nurture confident, compassionate learners through a progressive, inquiry-driven approach. While our foundation is the British National Curriculum, the way children engage with learning is emergent, shaped by their questions, passions, and discoveries.

We draw inspiration from some of the world’s most influential educational philosophies:

Montessori: Encourages independence and self-directed learning.

Reggio Emilia: Values collaboration, creativity, and the environment as the third teacher.

Froebel: Emphasises play, discovery, and imagination.

Forest Schools: Champions exploration and learning in nature, building resilience and confidence.

By combining these approaches, we create a rich, holistic environment where learning is meaningful, connected, and tailored to each child’s interests and stage of development.

Our Emergent Curriculum ensures that learning objectives are clear, but the path to achieving them emerges from each child’s curiosity and creativity. This approach blends the British National Curriculum with Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Froebel, and Forest School philosophies, connecting classroom learning with real-life experiences.

Stage-by-Stage Learning

Ages 2–4 (Toddler & Early Years):

Focused on personal, social, and emotional development. Learning is exploratory and play-based, helping children develop independence, confidence, and social skills.

Age 4–5 (Reception):

Academic concepts in literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving are gently introduced through project-based, inquiry-led activities, while continuing social-emotional growth.

Ages 5–7 (Key Stage 1, Years 1 & 2):

Children engage in hands-on, collaborative projects, connecting academic learning to real-life experiences. Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving are central, while still meeting British National Curriculum standards.

Ages 7–8 (Key Stage 2, Years 3 & 4):

Learning becomes more structured and rigorous, building on earlier curiosity and skills, while still allowing for exploration, creativity, and practical application of knowledge.

At every stage, our Emergent Curriculum empowers children to take ownership of their learning, fostering independence, confidence, and a love of discovery.

Beyond the classroom, we offer clubs, sports, music, and creative activities to support holistic development. Children can discover new passions and talents in a safe, nurturing environment, fostering confidence, creativity, and teamwork.

Children’s progress is tracked in a supportive, individualised way, focusing on growth rather than grades alone. By benchmarking against the British National Curriculum, we ensure academic readiness while honouring curiosity, experimentation, and self-expression.
